RED WHITE AND BOOOM Round 1 recap:

Saturday’s first round at “Belmont Park” began with some early morning breaks in the overcast otherwise cloudy high 79F winds light and variable for our feature card, starting Mr. Albatross himself PHILO BRATHWAITE who has been circulating the globe with his famous albatross caught on film, Latitude 64’s PATRICK BROWN hailing all the way from San Franscico, IZAK MCDONALD highest rated amateur player and sponsored by INNOVA, and the winner of the BOOOM raffle Joe Wendling. With the temperatures around 79F and light and variable winds, the scoring conditions were perfect for the first round.

BELMONT PARK

The course is located in Belmont Ohio. It’s a safe, scenic course on rolling hills, some fairly steep, with numerous large trees. Shifting winds are a factor. Long tees on 4 holes bring length to 6167′.

from Team Discmania best described Belmont Park as a “little SWOPE” in Kansas City with the gradual slopes. BOOOM pulled out all the stops with roping holes to make it more technically challenging for all type of players at the course.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM FIRST ROUND

There were 77 amateurs and 42 pros Competing at Belmont Park.

There was a gallery gathering for the featured card presented today.

The hot round from the Amateur card was Scott Silvas shooting a 51 (-8).

The hottest round from the men’s card was Ben Clark shooting a 47 (-19).

This morning, the first round of the amateur section of the tournament was played, then before the Pro section of the tournament was begun, in the afternoon, a Clinic run by five members of the Booom Team was run for whom wanted to attend. The instructors were: Philo Brathwaite, Dutch Napier, Jordan CASTRO, Patrick Brown, and Eric Oakley. There were thirty plus in attendance.

Dutch talked about how to get out of trouble on the course by scrambling. Philo talked about techinique. He called it the ABC, 123 elements of Disc Golf. Jordan talked about how to have fun on the disc course. Eric Oakley added to that by telling how to injoy the game and practice. Patrick Brown talked about creating structure for practice in which he talked about a basic stand, no stress, learning angles, winds, and putters, keeping your chin up, understanding your snap zone, practice and focus. There was a question asked by someone in the crowd about “how to overcome an adverse hole. Philo answered “let it go”. They all agreed it was a very good program, and they were glad they attended.

PRO FEATURED CARD HIGHLIGHTS

The featured card consisting of PHILO BRAITHWAITE and PATRICK BROWN of California, IZAK MCDONALD of Illinois, local favorite JOE WENDLING of Ohio ended with a two way battle between Disc golf celebrity Phil BRAITHWAITE and 15 year old IZAK MCDONALD tied at 49.

On the third hole PHILO became visible frustrated with his errand shot and shouted ” how could I have done that” when his card mates parked their shots. PHILO refocused and came back to fight through the adversity of missed putts. His game placed in a three way tie for third.

AMATEURS LEAD CARD HIGHLIGHTS

And we are off with the first round for the amateurs early in the morning Watching them play their best on a stage with many spectators. First round results reported from tournament central: Scott Silvis # 56684 51 (-8), Joe Down # 63786 53 (-6), Tre Fisher #76478 53 (-6), Bartosz Kowalewski # 68734 54 (-5), Matthew Dillon # 81577 54 (-5).

Scott Silvas surfaced with the lead among the field of 28 advanced players. We asked Scott Silvas who hails from Franklin, Ohio how his first round went? He stated, “I played yesterday and made a game plan to stay clean and take chances when you have them” He also wanted to thank Hyzerbomb for being his first sponsor.

Each amateur shot above their rating. Scott Silvas had the highest round rating at 996 .

RECAP ON FIRST ROUND ACTION!

TRENT NICHOLS AND JOHN HOLLINGSHEAD with Associates followed the men’s featured card consisting of PHILO BRAITHWAITE who has been circulating the globe with his famous albatross caught on film, Latitude 64’s PATRICK BROWN hailing all the way from San Franscico, IZAK MCDONALD highest rated amateur player and sponsored INNOVA, and the winner of the BOOOM raffle Joe Wendling.

The first round results ended with Ben Clark 47, Zacheriah Johnson 48, Nikko Lacastro 49, Philo Brathwaite 49, Izak McDonald 49.

Ben Clark is a 957 rated player from Fairfield Ohio. He said “everything went perfect.” He is also a junior at University of Cincinnati.

Ben Clark 47, Zackeriath Johnson 48, Nikko Lacastro 49, Philo Brathwaite 49 will be on the men’s lead card tomorrow afternoon.

Tomorrow’s men’s lead card will continue to show two veterans players Philo and Nikko Locastro, Izak McDonald who is up and coming pro for the quest to be the RED WHITE AND BOOOM CHAMPION. With the weather forecast for Sunday looking cloudy with occasional light rain in the afternoon. High 76F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph chance of rain 70% is bound to bring some unpredicable shots and unfolding excitement.

The Amateur lead card for Sunday will be Scott Silvis 51 (-8), Joe Down 53 (-6), Tre Fisher 53 (-6), Bartosz Kowalewski 54 (-5).
