JUST A THOUGHT: DISC GOLF: SANCTIONED AND UNSANCTIONED
Right now, Disc Golf is a rather confusing sport. There are PDGA sanctioned tournaments, tournaments that are “unsanctioned”, and tournaments sanctioned by other organizations. On the other hand, there are rules that are there but are ignored.
We are trying to grow a sport, but we don’t seem to agree on what we are doing or what the rules should be. For example, two players agree that someone they are playing with is breaking rules (whether or not it is happening)and they get their way! The TD decides he wants to change the rules, and usually he can do it, because he or she is god. The rules say no smoking pot or cigarettes, and it is often allowed anyway.
It seems to me, one of two things need to happen. Either the rules need to be fully recognized, followed, and sanctioned; or we need to decide to pull away from any attempt to organize or follow any rules altogether.
Let’s decide what we are going to do and then DO IT!
Of course. if you look at www.thecoxreport.com you will see that the word “sanction” is itself confusing, because it has two opposite meanings! Life can be so confusing.
